Overview
The rivalry between Bonny's two great trading houses, Oko Jumbo's Manilla Pepple and Jaja's Anna Pepple, revived after King George Pepple's accession. In 1869 they fought a major battle. Jaja led his house and followers 26 miles east to the mouth of the Imo river and founded Opobo, cutting Bonny off from the palm-oil markets of the Imo. Bonny turned on Kalabari's rivers to make up the loss.[1],[2]High confidence
