The Royal Niger Company on the Benue
In 1883 the Royal Niger Company set up a station at Ibi, on the Benue inside Muri emirate.
Overview
In 1883 the Royal Niger Company set up a station at Ibi, on the Benue inside Muri emirate. From there it burned the Jukun town of Jibu three times (1884, 1888, 1891) and, with the French officer Louis Mizon, took Kona in 1892. Muri forced the Company back at Kunini and Lau in 1889, but the Company sacked Wurio and Suntai in 1897 and 1899. Muri submitted in 1901, and Wukari passed under British rule at about the same time.[1],[2],[3]High confidence
Wikipedia says Muri was a de facto French protectorate under Mizon in 1892–1893, yet also that Mizon helped the Company take Kona. Both are given as written.
